My Story
It all started when I was a kid at school, reading a Roy of the Rovers comic book during my lunch break, and it forever changed my life. I read about his incredible soccer agility and ball skill to dribble past three or four defenders, pick a spot to shoot at goal, and curl the ball away from the keeper into the top left corner, and the boisterous cheers from the amazing crowd and team mates did something amazing in me. I wanted to be a soccer icon, I wanted to be Roy, who was and still is my soccer hero in many ways, but as I later discovered, it was much bigger than that.
You see I have learnt quite a few things from soccer that can be applied to everyday life like:

- Team work.
- Discipline.
- A good workout for my fitness.

I remember trying out for the school soccer team when I was 11 years old and making it. I got to be a part of a team environment, and the best part was that some of my friends also made the team. So we developed our soccer skills together and enjoyed the adventure wherever it took us. I enjoyed travelling between schools and visiting new places and meeting new people; it was fantastic!
Now that I was in high school, things were very different because competition was fierce, and I was devastated that I didn't make the school soccer team. It felt like getting a red card and being told you couldn't play any longer, and I was pissed. But, as the saying goes, "keep on keeping on." So even if I didn't make the school soccer team, I still had my friends and we would play at the park for fun like we used to when we were kids. This social soccer opened doors for me that I never imagined possible, as it led to my joining a social soccer team called Kaiser Wolves.
Kaiser Wolves F.C. was a social soccer team made up of guys who loved the game. After a while, it became quite competitive. This appealed to me because I enjoy a little friendly competition. Every Saturday, we would play against other social soccer teams in the area before enjoying each other's company with a barbeque. It was amazing! We discussed the possibility of forming a team to compete in the local soccer league at one point and bang! we were in a league before we knew it, starting at the bottom and working our way up a couple of divisions in three years. I would never trade any of the life experiences that soccer has provided me with, and despite my competitive nature, I still eat, drink, and live soccer. Soccer still makes me want to get out there and have some fun with my friends. So, let soccer do for you what it has done for me, and become a part of this global phenomenon.
